persistence of Spring

despite this bitter, windy cold -
this sunny yellow and emerald
green poked out through the snow

yesterday, it was 70 degress . . .
a light sweater and lunch on the patio.
all the snow had melted and the sound
of dripping water and creaking branches
could be heard.

today, the newly sprouted crocus got a
shock . . . their purple and yellow mouths
closed up promptly as first the rain, then
the SNOW flew AGAIN!
