Description
most specifically, an American Kestrel ( Falco sparverius)
America's smallest falcon and a beautiful bird of prey.
It is also known as a Sparrow Hawk.
You often see them perched along wires on country roads
where they hunt insects and mice when insects are not to be had.
This one is male, and he is perched on the gloved hand of a guide,
in a stucco doorway at the Arizona-Sonoma Desert Museum.
The black stripes in the back is the branching of a tree,
i think it rather accents the 3 black markings
and draws you down into his face . . .
It was raining that day . . .
and you can see some water sprinkles
just on top of his head in FULL VIEW
